EPL Returns In March with Man City v Arsenal

English Premier League Football will resume on the Wednesday June 17th, with Man City v Arsenal and Aston Villa v Sheffield United. These are games in hands for these clubs. The first week of EPL matches will begin in earnest on Friday June 19th with Spurs v Man United.

This week saw clubs return to full contact training which now leaves teams with roughly 3 weeks to get up to match fitness. The latest round of Coronavirus testing produced just 4 positive results out of 1008 tests on players.

The remaining fixtures will be played over a period of seven weekends, with two rounds of midweek fixtures included. The aim is to finish the season on August 2nd and then play the FA Cup final on August 8th or 9th.

With most players and staff on board with a return to competitive matches behind closed doors, the biggest sticking point right now involves the TV rights and compensation.

TV giants Sky and BT are claiming that the league owes them millions in lost subscriptions due to the suspension of the league. They also claim that they will lose further subscribers if football is played without fans in the stadium.

But that’s nothing compared to the 762 million pounds it would cost the league if the season doesn’t get completed. And the clock is also ticking on late fees with a fine of 36 million per week that the season runs over July 16th,

Once the TV distribution issues get resolved, there should be an abundance of games on offer at staggered times across each weekend. Keep checking out TV Schedule page for updates.
